Thrust Ball Bearings

Thrust Ball Bearings are designed to support axial loads only and are available in single-direction and double-direction designs. They consist of a shaft washer, housing washer, balls, and cage, providing smooth rotation, low friction, and reliable axial load support. The washers are typically made of bearing steel and feature raceway grooves that guide the balls and ensure proper load transmission. An appropriate internal design between the shaft washer and housing washer allows smooth ball rotation under axial load. These bearings are available with flat seat, spherical seat, and aligning seat washer designs, including the 51100, 51200, 51300, 51400, 53200, 53300, and 53400 series. Thrust ball bearings are commonly used in applications such as automotive systems, machine tools, gearboxes, pumps, electric motors, etc where axial load support is required. With ISO 9001 certification and over 15 years of manufacturing experience, BKZ Industry supplies thrust ball bearings to customers worldwide.

Thrust Ball Bearings Are Designed To Support Axial Loads Only

Benefits & Advantages of BKZ Industry Thrust Ball Bearings

Thrust Ball Bearings manufactured by BKZ Industry offer high axial load capacity, easy installation and disassembly, small axial space requirement, self-aligning capability, and a cost-effective bearing solution. As a thrust ball bearing factory from China with 15 years of experience in bearing manufacturing, BKZ Industry can offer all the thrust ball bearings you need.

Benefts of Thrust Ball Bearings

High Axial Load Capacity

The contact angle of thrust ball bearings is close to 90°, and the raceway grooves in both the shaft washer and housing washer are designed to support axial loads. The axial load is distributed across multiple balls simultaneously, allowing thrust ball bearings to support relatively high axial loads with reliable performance.

Easy Installation and Disassembly

Thrust ball bearings have a separable design in which the shaft washer, housing washer, and ball and cage assembly are separate components. They can be installed independently and usually do not require tight interference fits, making installation and removal along the shaft direction easy.

Small Axial Space Required

With a flat washer-type design, thrust ball bearings require relatively small axial installation space. Since the load is transmitted directly along the axis, the bearing structure can be thinner in the axial direction compared with bearings designed for combined loads.

Optional Self-aligning Capability

When a spherical housing washer and aligning seat washer are used together, the spherical seat surface between them allows the bearing to compensate for misalignment between the shaft and housing, improving installation tolerance and operating reliability.

Cost-effective Bearing Solution

Thrust ball bearings have a relatively simple structure consisting of a shaft washer, housing washer, balls, and cage, which results in lower manufacturing costs. In applications where radial loads are minimal or not present, using thrust ball bearings is more economical than using bearings designed for combined radial and axial loads.

Thrust Ball Bearings Types

Thrust ball bearings can be categorized into different types based on various classification methods. By seat design, they can be divided into flat seat face type, spherical seat face type, and aligning seat washer type. By series classification, common series include 51100, 51200, 51300, 51400, 53200, 53300, 53400, and aligning seat washer series such as 53200U, 53300U, and 53400U. However, the most common classification method is based on load direction, which divides thrust ball bearings into single direction thrust ball bearings and double direction thrust ball bearings.

Single Direction Thrust Ball Bearings

Single Direction Thrust Ball Bearings

Single direction thrust ball bearings consist of one shaft washer, one housing washer, and a ball and cage assembly. They are designed to support axial loads in one direction only and cannot carry radial loads. These bearings have a simple structure, low friction, and require small axial installation space. They are commonly used in automotive transmissions, pumps, screw jacks, and gearboxes where axial load acts in one direction.

Double Direction Thrust Ball Bearings

Double Direction Thrust Ball Bearings

Double direction thrust ball bearings consist of one shaft washer, two housing washers, and two ball and cage assemblies. They are designed to support axial loads in both directions and provide axial positioning of the shaft. Compared with single direction types, they can handle bidirectional axial loads and offer higher axial stiffness. They are widely used in machine tool spindles, vertical motors, turntables, and industrial machinery.

Thrust Ball Bearing Applications

Thrust ball bearings are designed to carry axial loads only and are commonly used in applications where rotational speeds are low to medium and axial installation space is limited, such as lead screws, screw jacks, vertical pumps, and similar machinery.

FAQs About Thrust Ball Bearings

Q1. Axial Thrust Ball Bearings vs Thrust Ball Bearings: Are They the Same?

Yes, axial thrust ball bearings and thrust ball bearings generally refer to the same type of bearing. The term “axial thrust ball bearing” simply emphasizes that the bearing is designed to carry axial loads only. These bearings consist of a shaft washer, housing washer, balls, and cage, and are used in applications where axial loads are present and radial loads are minimal.

Angular contact thrust ball bearings are different from standard thrust ball bearings. While thrust ball bearings carry axial loads only, angular contact thrust ball bearings can carry mainly axial loads and also support small radial loads. They have a contact angle and different raceway geometry, which allows them to support combined loads and operate at higher speeds.

Double direction thrust spherical ball bearings are designed to carry axial loads in both directions and compensate for shaft misalignment. They typically consist of a shaft washer, two housing washers, and ball and cage assemblies with a spherical seat arrangement. The spherical seat allows self-alignment, making these bearings suitable for applications where misalignment may occur.

Deep groove ball thrust bearings refer to thrust ball bearings with raceway grooves designed to guide the balls more precisely and improve load distribution. They are designed to support axial loads and provide smooth rotation and stable performance. The groove design helps improve running stability and bearing life in axial load applications.

Miniature thrust ball bearings are thrust ball bearings with very small dimensions, typically used in compact equipment and precision devices. Their bore sizes usually range from a few millimeters to around 10 mm. They are commonly used in small motors, instruments, medical devices, robotics, and precision mechanical equipment where axial loads are present.

Plastic thrust ball bearings are thrust bearings made partially or entirely from engineering plastics such as POM, PA, or PTFE. The washers and cage are usually made of plastic, while the balls may be stainless steel or glass balls. These bearings are lightweight, corrosion-resistant, non-magnetic, and suitable for chemical, food processing, and water treatment applications.

The main difference between radial ball bearings and thrust ball bearings is the load direction they support. Radial ball bearings are designed to carry radial loads and sometimes small axial loads, while thrust ball bearings are designed to carry axial loads only and should not be subjected to radial loads. Their internal structures and raceway orientations are also different.

Stainless steel thrust ball bearings are thrust ball bearings manufactured from stainless steel materials such as AISI 440C or 304 stainless steel. They offer good corrosion resistance, moisture resistance, and chemical resistance. These bearings are commonly used in food processing equipment, medical devices, marine equipment, and environments where corrosion protection is required.

Sealed thrust ball bearings are thrust bearings designed with seals or shields to protect the internal components from dust, moisture, and contaminants while retaining lubricant inside the bearing. Although most thrust ball bearings are open type, sealed versions are used in applications where contamination protection and reduced maintenance are required.
